Our centers are in nearly every PetSmart® store. Many centers have both dogs and cats available. Please call ahead to confirm.
A one to three foot tall, four legged, non English speaking, fur coat wearing canine will not enjoy the weather conditions and “alien” environment at Burning Man the way humans do. The alkaline soil is corrosive to noses, paws and bellies. Dehydration and heatstroke happen very quickly, and there is no animal medical service at the event. Pets are also prone to responding adversely to loud noises, huge sound systems, explosions, fireworks and crazy costumed people. Many animals have been lost each year, and problem dogs have caused disputes between camps.
As to arthritis, perhaps ask the vet if Lexie can handle glucosamine supplements (there are capsules for dogs–just mix the powder in with food). Some pets respond to it. It worked wonders for my first cat, but it didn’t really help my second.

This is a list of stray and found dogs brought to the Humane Society of Missouri, APA, St. Louis City Animal Care and Control and St. Louis County Animal Care and Control. If you believe one of these dogs is yours, please call the agency listed on the pet’s page. All of the dogs listed below are available for adoption but each is in a different stage of getting their medical care. Each dog/puppy's adoption fee includes their microchip, current vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, and they are started on flea/heartworm prevention. Some of our pets are still in the process of getting these services, and may not be available to be taken home immediately. Please have a look at all of the amazing dogs we have for adoption in our centers and our foster program. If you would like more information on a pet found here please email . Be sure to include the pet’s name and ID# in the subject line. In the email please include your phone number and email address and someone will contact you as soon as possible. (Please allow 24 hours for return contact.) Our adoption fees range from $0 to $150. Upon entry at our shelters, most dogs are given a 4-in-1 vaccination, Bordetella vaccination and flea/tick treatment. Adopted dogs ages three months of age and older also receive a rabies vaccination and County dog license/tag as part of their adoption fee. Cat s receive a 3-in-1 vaccination when they arrive at our shelters (cats are not required to be rabies vaccinated or licensed in Maricopa County).
All animals adopted from Maricopa County Animal Care & Control must be spayed or neutered prior to leaving the shelter. If the cat or dog you adopt has not yet been altered, he/she may need to stay an extra day or two for surgery.
In recognition and appreciation of U.S. veterans' service to our country, MCACC's Pets and Vets program waives adoption fees for select pets adopted by veterans. Adopters participating in the Pets and Vets program will be responsible for paying the $17 license fee for adopted dogs (there is no fee for cats). Veterans wishing to participate in the Pets and Vets program are asked to provide verification of veteran, reservist or active duty status. We will accept the following verification documents: Military ID, DD214 Military Discharge Certificate, Honorable Discharge Certificate, Letter for the U.S. Military Center in St. Louis or Letter from the Maryland Veterans Administration Service Program.
Our shelters take in nearly 100 animals every single day. If you are looking for a specific breed or type of animal, it is best to visit our shelters in person. Once you've found a pet you'd like to adopt, our staff and volunteers will ask you to spend some time in one of our Get Acquainted areas with your potential pet. If it's a match, you'll be asked to complete an adoption application and a short questionnaire. You do not need to be an Arizona resident to adopt from MCACC, but you must complete the adoption in person and we are unable to provide transportation for your newly adopted dog or cat.
